While he said it would be an uphill battle, Deron Williams thought the New

Jersey Nets had an outside shot at making the playoffs this season after being

traded last week by the Utah Jazz.

Almost a week later, those thoughts are long gone.

Last night the Nets (17-43) lost their third straight game since Williams’

arrival and their sixth contest in a row after a heartbreaking 104-103 overtime

defeat to the Phoenix Suns (31-27) at the Prudential Center in Jersey.

Williams showed his brilliance in his home debut with 13 points and 18 dimes,

center Brook Lopez (28 points and 10 boards) outplayed his brother Robin (14

points and 4 boards), and forward Kris Humphries added 16 points and 15 rebounds

for the Nets.

But it wasn’t enough as Channing Frye buried a 3-pointer with seven seconds

remaining in overtime to cement the Suns’ victory. Stopping Steve Nash was also

a problem for New Jersey on Monday night. Nash scored 10 points and dished out

15 assists in Phoenix’s win.

Here are the rest of last night’s NBA scores with each squad’s top performers.

Chicago 105, Washington 77.
