I think with the rise of Obama as a black man in the office of the president of the United States, Suge should look to other things and stop thugging! Thugging gets a black man or anyone for that matter either in jail, prison, or dead! I think that Suge needs to reform his thinking and ways and see the results of his actions. As a race of people we have come a long way, but there still is more work that needs to be done.

The fact that he got beat up should not be a symbol of thugs taking a beatdown as whole, but let’s face it. Everything that happens in hip-hop is a symbol of us as a people. The goings ons of blacks in hip-hop, and within the media are sometimes the only symbol of what we are doing as a race. BET??? One damned station of booty shaking thug parading. It is the only means of showing the WORLD what we as a people are made of and we have made a mockery of it. People have made ideologies about our people based on what they see us doing in the media. Let Suge Knight’s situation stand for a symbolic ass whooping for all that worship a deadend thug life. It’s played and hip-hop is dead. I hope that people of substance bring it back to life or we can just let it die. Thug life should never have been glorified. It is a struggle to survive and get out of. How the hell does Suge Knight getting his ass beat symbolize the change of the thought process of a whole culture of people? Please explain that to me. some of the posts on here give me encouragement; they give me encouragement that there are intelligent, capable black men out there (just like the MANY, MANY black men who i see with their kids…and they say we are pathetic fathers)…anyway, i am a solutions person…from my own personal experience…having grown up as a THUG (not one of these fake imbeciles)..it is my coaches (athletic), parents, teachers and others who helped steer me in the right direction by letting me know i could do better.
Just imagine, if each successful (by this i mean, u have a decent job — not necessarily 6 figures) and intelligent black man, adopted one troubled kid and simply had that kid shadow them; or if 5 successful black men got together and set up a little program for these young THUGS .. and through this program showed these kids that “Hey, just because u live in such a fucked up environment does not mean u can’t rise out of it” …just imagine the possibilities. George Washington Carver was a poor black slave, his slavemistress took interest in him, and this kid went on to garner sooo many patents for his inventions….there was a black man on death row in new york who had the IQ of a super-genius…he earned (i might be wrong here) about 2 – 3 Ph.Ds (one in Law) while on death row..what if someone had caught him at a younger age?
This is OUR race, OUR society..remember when grandmas in the neighborhood were the watchful eye for young kids ditching school, when their parents went away? Why did we as a people lose that…now all we do is hate on each other….and the truth is, this fucked up attitude we have torwards each other is directly attributable to these ‘hip hop bling’ bullshit..yet, some of these more conscious artists (like Common, Guru, etc) will make it known that it is these little sub-urban retard lilly white (wanna be black) A&R punks who steer or try to steer these rappers into this ‘THUG, BLING’ B.S…but that makes sense for someone starting out..when a JayZ or Suge perpetuate this BS, they are the ass-holes because they have enough clout to avoid it, but yet let themselves be used.
Anyway, if we turn our backs to those who spit and denigrade us, and focus on building ourselves up, I honestly think we as a race can rise…we have ample evidence of what we as a people can do…look at Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Martin King..Rosa Parks, Sojourner Truth, Look at all the black men and women who marched and bussed bravely, look at all the slaves who worked together on the ‘Night Train’…We are the same people…so WAKE UP BLACK MAN, WAKE UP BLACK WOMAN…all that Obama is, is a symbol, a beacon, we must now embrace this and raise ourselves to the TOP (where we belong)…as for those self hating, insecure, pretentious, retarded idiots amongst us, do as i do…turn a blind eye to them..sooner or later they’ll look in the mirror and see the pathetic losers they are looking back at them

Adisa made some interesting points, however, one does not necessarily have to frame Suge’s downfall in the context of Obama’s rise. Yes, Obama has raised the bar for all of us black men, but especially those in the public eye used to getting their attention and money from glorifying negativity and preying upon their own. Somebody needs to tell the gangstas and thugs in rap music that the economy and Obama’s rise signals the end of the Bling-Bling ERA. People don’t want to hear all that bragging about “my-money this, my money that” when they are about to lose their damned house. Obama’s image and presence is powerful, and its challenging our so-called artists to raise their game. I want to be one of the first to say that for some of these rappers who are just marginally skilled, their career is over. Maybe we will get back to rap lyrics being of substance and positivity. I’d like to say a few things…first of all the term THUG has become significantly misconstrued. As a young boy, I grew up in SOuth Central L.A..I grew up in a Crip neighborhood, and even though I never initiated, I knew and saw a lot of my friends die at a very young age (12 – 14). I was fortunate in that I was involved in sports and that kept me from the mayhem. A lot of you don’t realize that a lot of these youngins in the ghetto know no better and have no other option but to sell drugs..The whole world spits on them, and it is no wonder that they view themselves as degenerates….One day, I pray I become a billionaire such that I may provide channels for these youngins to get out..they are not bad people, just lacking in sufficient knowlegde..and for that I applaud the Nation of Islam for what they do in the ghetto..
The problem is these PRETEND THUGS..little idiots who never saw the ghetto but want to portray that image..having been there, I can only say that only a fool would glorify that environment..I know of NO REAL HOOD who relishes in the environment they live in.
A lot of these hip hop gangsters are little pretenders…they know not a thing about the ghetto….I believe Suge may have actually been a part of the hood life (he was a blood, I beleive); but as someone who came from there, I can honestly say that only a fool would make so much money and keep himself involved in that environment…The only involvement I want with the ghetto, having ESCAPED it, is to help others escape it…
There are tooo many STUPID black men…that is the problem. These little idiots who are drunk on their pathetic egoes, and hide behind body guards and limos, and fancy cars…they are true idiots. These fools who can show no respect to their fellow black man, but expect you to respect them, for what? First show some respect to get respect.
I am a fighter (boxer and MMA) and a lot of these little egotistic idiots are always trying to test me..little faggots and suburban retards… I refuse to fight them because the law considers my body a deadly weapon and I know full well, that these little idiots, without their guns and ‘CREWS’ aint shit. I have a friend (22 years old) who was jumped by 5 guys..he was also a fighter..he beat the shit out of them and put them all in the hospital and ended up serving 6 months (reduced sentence) in prison..I have no interest in going to prison, so I try to walk away, but these little farts are so retarded, they see that as weakness, not knowing that within a quick second I could end their pathetic lives.
I hope this Suge thing is the begining and we start seeing more of these little retards getting their little punk behinds kicked, because they are really starting to get on my nerves with their pretensions and worthless egoes.
