Barack Obama is taking his role as commander in chief seriously. He previously had said the moment that he truly realized he was President of the United States was when he was signing the letters to the families of fallen soldiers.

This is a departure from the Bush administration who sent letters to the families of fallen soldiers starting Dear John Doe.
