WASHINGTON — Osama bin Laden was unarmed when Navy SEALs burst into his room and shot him to death, the White House said Tuesday — despite earlier reports of a frenzied firefight.

USA Today reports:

With the dramatic middle-of-the-night raid less than two days old, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney corrected several elements of a description given Monday by White House counterterrorism czar John Brennan about the final moments of bin Laden’s life.

As the White House reportedly grapples with the decision to release photographic evidence of Bin Laden’s death, various details of the story continue to emerge that conflict with original reports.
