California's swelling Prison PopulationAs California prisons currently house 180% of their intended capacity, the Supreme Court ordered on Monday that the state drastically reduce its inmate population 2013.

In an effort to meet the mandate, the state is now proposing the release of more than 30,00 inmates, cutting its current population from 143,435  to 109,805 by 2013.

Good magazine illustrates the epidemic with an insightful infographic of the state’s prision population.
