NEW YORK—Mahmoud Abdel-Salam Omar, former head of the Bank of Alexandria, was arrested Monday afternoon after a hotel maid told police that the Egyptian businessman sexually assaulted her in his New York hotel room.

According to reports, Abdel-Salam Omar allegedly groped and grinded against the woman after locking her in his $900-a-night room at The Pierre hotel in Manhattan.

We take all complaints very seriously and investigate thoroughly. This incident has been formally reported to the New York Police Department and is under investigation. We will fully comply with the investigation as requested,” the statement read.

The incident comes just weeks after former head of the International Monetary Fund Dominique Strauss Kahn was arrested for similar accusations by a maid at his Manhattan hotel.
