PHILADELPHIA — Roosevelt Hairston Jr., an attorney for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, was arrested for allegedly stealing $1.7 million from the hospital over the course of 12 years.

NBC reports:

The charges — mail fraud, money laundering, and filing a fake tax return — stem from the “financial irregularities” found during an internal investigation according to a CHOP news release.

According to the U.S. attorney’s office, Hairston forged invoices and created fake companies to launder money.

As part of the scheme, Hairston stole the identity of an old friend, creating a fake email to validate the invoices.

A private yacht with a captain was among the luxuries purchased with stolen money.
