TAMPA — Reggae star Buju Banton has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of conspiracy to deal drugs earlier this year after his first trial was a mistrial.

Go-Jamaica reports:

This comes four months after Buju was convicted in the US Middle District Court, Florida Division, for conspiring to set up a drug deal in a Florida warehouse.

The reggae icon, who has been in custody since his arrest in December 2009, could have had a mandatory minimum sentence imposed, of 15 years to life in prison.
