Democrats are calling Republicans clueless on the nation’s debt limit as the August 2nd date of financial crisis looms.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on the Senate floor today that the U.S. government’s failure to pay its bills will spark a new financial disaster.

“Failure to avert this crisis would have dire consequences,” Reid said. “It would result in the most serious financial crisis this country has ever faced. Millions of Americans could lose their jobs. Social Security checks could stop. So could paychecks to our troops.”

Democrats pointed to Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty, and RNC Chairman Reince Preibus as two examples of the party’s lack of knowledge on the debt crisis.
