NEWARK — A Newark Little League coach Kevin Waters, 54, was brutally attacked on a baseball field, leaving him with a fractured skull, a concussion and two missing teeth.

Waters, who served as president of the West Ward Little League for 13 years, is said to be the only thing that separates his young players from the prevalent drug activity on the streets of Newark. He is seen by most community members as a strong, positive father figure for his players who affectionately call him “coach.”

Though Waters is revered by most, one former coach allegedly sought revenge after being fired by Waters for cursing in front of players. Henry Milstrey reportedly attacked Waters after a June 8 game in Valisburg Park. He was charged with aggravated assault.
