Slain high school basketball star Tayshana Murphy may have been targeted by the two gunmen who shot and killed her and her brother, according to authorities.

Earlier reports alleged Murphy was a victim of mistaken identity, but police now believe her and her brother were targeted as retaliation for an earlier assault between individuals at rival housing projects.

The New York Daily News Reports:

Murphy, 18, one of the top female high-school hoops players in the country, was blasted with a 9-mm. gun as she pleaded for her life on the fourth floor of the Harlem project.

Police were interviewing two witnesses to the bloodshed, which apparently stemmed from a war between the Grant Houses and the Manhattanville Houses.
