Education Report: Black Students Less Likely To Get Merit-Based Aid

    A new report from the U.S. Department of Education reveals that Black college students are less likely than their white counterparts to receive merit-based financial aid.

    According to the report, during the 2007-2008 school year only 11.4 percent of all Black student received merit-based financial aid.

    When looking only at students who attended four-year colleges and universities on a full-time basis, the report found that 26.9 percent of Black students received merit-based grants when compared to 35.1 percent of white students.
