During a recognition ceremony for Rev. Jesse Jackson at Georgetown University, Professor Michael Eric Dyson honored Jackson for his contributions to America, saying that the activist set the stage for President Barack Obama.

Dyson, Rev. Al Sharpton, academics, and students attended the event, according to TheHoya.com

Describing him as “one of the most extraordinary figures in American history,” Dyson emphasized Jackson’s role in shaking up politics.

“Without Jesse Jackson, there would be no Barack Obama,” he said.
