Four drunken Somali Muslim women caught on tape severely beating a white woman in the UK were not jailed because the judge heard they were “not used to being drunk” because they were Muslim, UK publication The Sun reports.
Not only did the judge determine the attack was not racially motivated, he decided neither of the four girls deserved jail time.
According to the article, Rhea Page was set upon while walking to a taxi cabstand with her boyfriend in June of 2010. The four women dragged and beat Page repeatedly while her boyfriend, 23-year-old Lewis Moore, struggled to fend off the attackers.
Sisters Ambaro Maxamed, 24, Ayan Maxamed, 28, and Hibo Maxamed, 24, along with their cousin Ifrah Nur, 28, were convicted of causing actual bodily harm.
According to the report, the girls called Page a “white b****” during the attack. But what is disturbing is the sentence each of the attackers handed, according to reporting by the Daily Mail.
The four women, who all live in Leicester, were each sentenced to six-month jail terms, suspended for 12 months, at Leicester Crown Court last month.
Hibo Maxamed also received a four-month curfew between 9pm and 6am, while the others were ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
Page says it was clearly racism that motivated the four women to attack her.
“I honestly think they attacked me just because I was white. I can’t think of any other reason.”
Do you agree with her? Do you feel the four women got off free? If it were the other way around, do you feel the court ruling would have been different?
