First since she’s openly a lesbian what is the issue? If one objects to be called names then one should change themselves as they can to be normal and not deviant – period!

Despite what I do for a living – work to uphold the rights of all people – I personally am repulsed by gays and keep them out of my inner circle so as not to contaminate my morals. Any insults or harm that comes to those that choose an “alternative” lifestyle they bring on themselves – and yes it is a choice and not some “hard wiring” issue as science insists.

Ok, lets debate the substance of her joke. She argued that anyone who wishes failure, like Rush Limbaugh, on a President is the same as wishing failure on the country. Why? Because implicit within her argument is the assumption that when the President fails at whatever he does domestic policy or foreign policy wise, hurts Americans as a whole. Any person that wishes failure on the President, in Wanda’s (and my view), is no different from a terrorist making the same claim, particularly since terrorists work in their own best interest. Even though you may be conservative, you can always debate foreign and domestic policy. That is the essence of a democracy. However, when you wish failure on a President for political gain as Rush Limbaugh did, that is very insensitive and selfish. More importantly, you aren’t operating in the best interest of the country. Wanda followed up with “I hope his kidneys fail, how about that.” It’s an analogous relationship given that a President failing at domestic or foreign policy is as detrimental to the American public as kidney failure is to an individual. You’d have to THINK about the substance of the joke instead of reacting in a knee jerk fashion. I’m sure she doesn’t really wish him harm. After all, this was a dinner roast, and these things are supposed to be taken in good faith. I’m sure Rush Limbaugh got that part of the joke.

Brother dericox, the phrase itself was a complete thought, meaning it contained a subject and a predicate. The previous sentence which stated that Obama should have been squirming before the black dyke comment is sufficient enough in terms of establishing the context for the remark. It matters not that he is a “free-thinking individual.” In fact, he just proved that he is a free-thinking/talking individual. His liberal tendency’s does not disqualify him from being a racist, misogynist, homophobic, and religious insensitive jackass. If you have read so many of his books, lectures, and interviews, you should know that he is known for his rudeness and his reputation of being drunk at public events. Sisher Whos_GiNa: Do you understand that he was not in any way trying to compliment her? A white male bringing up someone’s race and sexuality within a situation that does not warrant such a remark should make you suspicious to say the least. Yes she is Black and lesbian, and many people in the audience probably knew that either by observation or background knowledge. The question should not be “she IS black and she IS a lesbian..what’s the problem?” The question should be: why is this even relevant? The fact that he even mentioned that “no one told her the rules” is very problematic since this was a roast, which by definition, is where comedians or other guests are allowed to make comedic insults, outlandish remarks, or praises to a person who takes them in good faith. What rule did she break? Was she out of her place for making jokes that a man, particularly a white male, could get a way with? These are the types of questions that any self-proclaimed strong woman should be making when a white male implies that she is of order. And yes, it is my opinion that he is racist and homophobic. Those who are committed to anti-racism/sexism/homophobia do not resort to oppressive language at moments where such things aren’t warranted. This story was on Huffington post early yesterday, and someone noted that he was polluted. It is my experience that alcohol tends to make people think allowed. If he thinks racist/homophobic thoughts or are bound by those assumptions, then that makes him racist, homophobic, and sexist from a sociological/social psychological perspective, particularly since he implied that there was some rule that she didn’t abide by within a situation where she was clearly allowed to make her jokes. That makes him a racist, sexist, and homophobic white liberal!

I think one has to know and understand Christopher Hitchens’ person to understand what he meant by these comments.

Christopher is one of the most noted freethinkers on the planet (along with Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris). I have read enough of his books and listened to enough of his commentary to know that 1) he is not racist, and 2) he is not homophobic in the least. I have also read enough of his writings and gone to enough of his lectures to know that he’s fairly cutting with his tongue, oftentimes saying things that push the limit of what we consider acceptable to say in this society. For example, go to Youtube.com to look at his debate with Al Sharpton against, what he believes, is the utter nonsense of religious faith. A lot of the side comments he makes in the debate are statements that we are taught as children never to make to people of the cloth.

I’d be interested to see what preceded his comments and what came after them, though, because I am sure the entire pictures tells an accurate story of what he was talking about. Reprinting one line of what was probably a long diatribe (he’s known for them), of course, is sensational and only serves to increase the number of hits to this Blackplanet.com.

If interested, Amazon.com has most of Christopher’s books listed there for purchase. I have found them enjoyable and concur with most of his thoughts, but not always his delivery.
