Entertainer and host of the TV show “America’s Got Talent” Nick Cannon spoke to shock jock Howard Stern Tuesday morning about his health scare and squashed their beef.
On his first day back to his 92.3 NOW FM radio show host job, Cannon told Stern that he was initially diagnosed with acute mountain sickness, an illness that ranges from a mild headache and weariness to a life-threatening build-up of fluid in the lungs or brain at high altitudes. A battery of tests later revealed that Cannon had actually developed mild kidney failure:
They thought it was kidney stones, then a kidney infection. They found out my kidney’s were not functioning well.
Although Cannon was released from the hospital and is partially back on his schedule, he is not out of the woods yet. The performer says that he still needs to undergo a few more procedures before he is given a clean bill of health. He also admitted that he has to slow his roll a bit and not go so hard with all that is on his plate:
It’s more about just my way of living…. It’s really about taking some time.
Cannon, who had been vacationing with his wife Mariah Carey and their 8-month-old twins in Aspen over the Christmas holiday, suddenly fell ill. After the 31-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital, Carey broke the news of her husband’s illness, tweeting that he had been diagnosed with mild kidney failure.
After discussing Cannon’s health, both Stern and Cannon discussed working side-by-side on “America’s Got Talent.” Stern just signed on as a judge on the hit TV show, replacing Piers Morgan, who departed “Talent” after last season. Stern will be judging the talents alongside Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel.
Last year, Cannon and Stern bumped heads when the shock jock insulted Carey during one of his radio rants. Stern, who is infamous for going for the jugular with his criticisms, also accused Cannon of being a fake street dude who speaks in an “Al Jolson-ish” manner:
It makes me mental when he has to put on that voice, he doesn’t have to act that way!
Now, the olive branch has been accepted by both men and the two seem to have squashed their public battle:
When you got ill, I seriously debated not doing the show,” said Stern. “You are a great host.”
The always probing Stern also tried to delve into Cannon’s past romantic dalliances with “it” girl Kim Kardashian, actress Lindsay Lohan, and Victoria’s Secret lingerie model Selita Ebanks. In the end, Cannon tried to deflect Stern’s line of questioning, regarding his dating past, by circling back to Carey whom he affirmed is his real true love. “I’m happier than happy,” said, Cannon.
