Troy Cameron murdered in Chicago; alleged gunman commits suicideDante Simmons, 33, of Evanston, Illinois, was the prime suspect in two murders that occurred Friday evening in Chicago, according to authorities. Now, one day later, the Chicago Police Department is investigating his death by apparent suicide.

Simmons’ body was discovered with a self-inflicted gun-shot wound to the head by a man shoveling snow at approximately 8:15 a.m. Saturday morning. He was being investigated in the horrific shooting deaths of 22-year-old Troy Cameron (pictured left), and an unidentified 15-year-old boy.

The local ABC affiliate in Chicago reports that friends of Cameron’s informed his family that it was a case of a disgruntled co-worker at the Walgreens store where Cameron was employed:

He was saying that it was supposed to have been an ex-employee and he got caught stealing or something and they fired him, said Cameron’s cousin, Christopher Crumb. He supposedly (had) been calling there and threatening them.

Representatives for the company have neither confirmed nor denied that information; instead, they have released the following statement:

We are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the employee’s family and we are providing information to the police and doing all we can to assist them.

Raised in Chicago’s notorious Cabrini-Green projects, an urban war zone that was shut down in 2010, relatives say that Cameron had a bright and successful future in front him — a future allegedly cut short by a gunman who left no motive in the two murders. He leaves behind a 2-year-old son and a family who cherishes him. His aunt, Luella Pickens, is still in shock that this happened to her nephew.

He didn’t have a care about him, she said. He always tried to talk to people to do the whole right thing.
