According to police, Lawson had been arguing incessantly with boyfriend Kevin Ford Jr. over rent money. As the argument intensified, Ford allegedly doused the 31-year-old woman with a flammable liquid, then set her ablaze while she was holding her toddler son.

Lawson, whose blood-curdling screams could be heard outside her second-story apartment at the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority complex, somehow managed to get to a window while still clutching her son.  The frantic young women first dangled the child out the window, then released her grip.  Neighbors had already gathered below Lawson’s window upon hearing her screams, and a woman was able to catch the child safely in her arms.

In order to escape Ford, Lawson followed suit, throwing herself out of her window. Fortunately, she was able to put out the flames that were trying to consume her.  Both Lawson and her baby boy were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Lawson suffered burns on her back and neck.  She also received a broken arm from the fall.   The toddler checked out fine, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Ford, whom police were trying to track down in a citywide manhunt, was discovered five hours after the incident.  He will be charged with attempted murder.
