Michael Chavis, Jr. (pictured) was arrested Wednesday morning and stands accused of dangling a 5-year-old child above an “aggressive” chained pit bull last January 15.

According to police, the 22-year-old Lancaster, Pennsylvania resident had become incensed when the child, along with some other neighborhood children, kicked up dirt on his parked vehicle and shouted curse words at him.  Witnesses state that Chavis angrily retaliated by grabbing the kindergartner, then intimidated him by dangling him above the snarling dog.

The angry Pit Bull, who hails from a breed genetically selected for their fighting ability and known for having powerful jaws, was able to latch on to the child’s shirt but did not manage to bite the youngster.

“As far as we know, there is no relationship between Mr. Chavis and the child,” Lancaster police told WBTV.

Chavis has been charged with third-degree assault and battery.  He is also wanted for failing to appear before a judge involving another matter.  The young man has already been arrested 23 times on various charges including drugs, instigating a riot and assault and battery with intent to kill.
