Citing leg problems ahead of a Radio City Music Hall show this past Saturday, the legendary singer did not make the memorial or burial service. Tuesday afternoon, Franklin sent a large bouquet of flowers to Cissy Houston that reportedly said, “Love, Aretha, according to a Daily News report.

The News also speculated on Monday that Franklin skipped the services after angering Cissy Houston for comments she made on the “Today” show last Friday; however, a source close to the Houston family confirmed on Tuesday that Franklin’s leg had indeed hobbled her efforts to get around.

“Aretha was devastated she missed the service,” the source said. “She’s just stunned and heartbroken. She sent Cissy flowers to her house, telling her how terrible she felt, how she really wanted to be there.”

Franklin has been lambasted in the media for the no-show, which was an unexpected turn of events considering how close Whitney Houston was to Franklin. The source to the News further stated that Franklin made several attempts to attend the events, but simply could not follow through. The source also insisted there is no rift between Houston’s mother and Franklin.

“She and Cissy have been friends since the 1960s,” said the source. “They’re forever friends.”
