Virginia’s Senate narrowly approved a bill on a 21-19 vote that will require women “to undergo a transabdominal ultrasound prior to having an abortion,” CBSNews.com reports.

The legislation passed mostly along party lines. The transabdominal ultrasound is a requested amendment to the bill by Robert F. McDonnell, the state’s Republican governor, after critics decried initial legislative efforts to have women undergo a transvaginal ultrasound.

(Yes. It is as invasive as it sounds)

The Washington Post reports that the bill now must go to Virginia’s House of Delegates for approval before it heads to McDonnell for his signature.
