The New York Police Department‘s (NYPD) “Stop and Frisk” policy is perhaps the most well-known and controversial police tactic in the United States. More than 93 percent of New Yorkers stopped under the policy during the final three months of 2011 were either Black or Hispanic, according to the Village Voice.

While NYPD police chief Ray Kelly argues adamantly that the policy helps to keep guns off of the streets, many feel it is tool through which police officers can racial profile and harass innocent Black and Hispanic residents.

NewsOne spoke to locals in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx in New York City to ask whether they feel the policy actually makes them safer. You will be surprised at some of the responses.
