She was 52.

Her death has not been ruled a suicide. But ABC News reports, according to its sources, that she “apparently killed herself.” Kennedy’s life had taken a downward spiral before her passing.

Back in 2004, Kennedy was charged with drunk driving. The New York Post reports that her husband, Robert Jr., tried to take her to see a shrink back in 2007. And The Los Angeles Times reports Kennedy struggled with drug and alcohol issues.

While being dubbed “America’s Family,” the Kennedy clan has endured a brutal legacy of both tragic and consecutive deaths.

The last Kennedy to die was the former Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, who died of natural causes, in 2009. Rosemary Kennedy, Ted’s sister, died in 2005. John F. Kennedy, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, died in a plane crash in 1999. His father, U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas in 1963. His brother, Robert Kennedy, was also assassinated in 1968 during his run for the U.S. Presidency.
