George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch captain who shot Trayvon Martin dead on Feb. 26, will appear in a Sanford circuit court on Friday for a second bond hearing, the Miami Herald reports.

Given Zimmerman’s history of lying to the court and his disrespectful phone calls in which he made light of killing Trayvon, the wanna-be cop seems to have an uphill hill road to climb towards securing his freedom.

In April, Circuit Judge Kenneth R. Lester released Zimmerman out on bond. But, as NewsOne recently reported, Zimmerman lied to the judge about exactly how much money he and his wife, Shellie Zimmerman, had during that hearing. When their lies were discovered, both were arrested.

Mrs. Zimmerman was released on bond soon after, but George stayed in jail.

But there is more to Zimmerman’s disrespect for the law and his actions that took a young man’s life. He made light of his senseless shooting of Trayvon by telling his wife that he’ll hide in a hoodie for protection once he is released.

Here are excerpts of those phone calls:

With both Zimmerman’ and his wife, Shellie, pleased at the level of support they are receiving, Shellie tells her husband that after this ordeal is over, he will have a “great life”:

“After all this is over, you’re going to be able to have a great life.”

“We will.”

“Yeah, we will.”

Most upsetting, though, is when he and his wife discuss security. While explaining what the safety procedure should be once he is released on bail from jail, Zimmerman says, “We could have two cars, we could have two rented cars.” When the wife prods further about how he will hide himself in the vehicle, Zimmerman responds:

Well, I have my hoodie.”

Right.

Zimmerman’s lawyer, Mark O’Mara, is expected to argue that his client has been cooperating with authorities from the time he killed the unarmed 17-year-old Miami Gardens teen. But, as NewsOne reported earlier, Zimmerman’s account of what happened on Feb. 26 was questioned by one of the investigators.

Here is a rundown of the exchange, as reported by NewsOne:

Detailing his encounter with Martin, Zimmerman told Singleton that the “bad guys always get away. ” This prompted Serino to accuse Zimmerman of profiling:

“You wanted to catch him. You wanted to catch the bad guy, the f—–g punk who can’t get away,” Serino said.

Zimmerman replied,  “I wasn’t following him; I was just going in the same direction he was.”

Serino responded, “That’s following.”

Serino referred to Zimmerman as probably being a “good guy,” but found it suspicious that his minor injuries didn’t match his account of being viciously beaten by a “child” carrying candy and an iced tea. He also noted that Zimmerman had no defensive wounds on his hands, as one would expect from such a violent struggle.

According to the Herald:

Zimmerman repeatedly told police that Trayvon Martin sucker-punched him, tried to suffocate him and bashed his head into the concrete to the point it felt his “head was going to explode.” He said Trayvon tried to take his gun from him before saying: “You’re going to die tonight, motherf—–.”

But Serino wondered why Zimmerman’s skull wasn’t fractured, why he didn’t know the street names of a tiny neighborhood where he’d lived for three years… Serino got him to acknowledge what Trayvon’s parents and lawyers have said all along: that Zimmerman got out of his car that night not so much to check for an address to give police, but to find out where the teen went.

“That was a kid with a future, a kid with folks that care. Not a goon,” he said. “In his mind’s eye, he perceived you as a threat. He has every right to defend himself.”

According to The Herald, Judge Lester says that, while his cooperation with police helped him in his prior hearing, his lack of respect for the court would not. Given the release of Zimmerman’s jailhouse tape recordings and his previous lies under oath, it seems that he has more out of his favor in today’s hearing. Let us hope that the judge is not fooled twice as there is no telling what other “misleading” testimony Zimmerman will give.

Trayvon’s parents are expected to be in attendance during Friday’s hearing. It will be interesting to see the expression on Zimmerman’s face, given that he made light of killing the Martin family’s son. Surely, his so-called proposal to apologize to Trayvon’s parents is clearly as insincere as Zimmerman himself.

The hearing is taking place now. You can watch it here.
