At some point, the uncle left the children for his bedroom and realized Ziya was missing upon his return.

Here are more details on this tragic story:

Bridget Elam, the girl’s grandmother, said she had gone shopping for the Fourth of July when her phone rang at 3:46 p.m.

It was her son, Emmanuel Turner’s brother, asking whether she knew where Zyia was.

“What do you mean, you can’t find her?” Elam recalled saying.

“The last I saw her, she was sitting on the dining room floor, eating cereal.

“That’s when everything went to a panic.”

They called police and made flyers with pictures of the missing girl.

Zyia’s autopsy has been completed, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office, but the results are pending the toxicology screen, which could take six to eight weeks.

The family of Zyia’s mother is handling the funeral arrangements. The grandmother told Fox 2 News Detroit that the girl loved to climb and that, perhaps, she was climbing in the closet and something fell on top of her. The Detroit Police Department is currently investigating the case.

Zyia leaves behind two brothers, ages 2 and 6. Go to the Detroit Free Press for the full story.
