Kasia Rivera (pictured), 35, of East Orange, who has no medical training, allegedly injected silicone into the penis of 22-year-old Justin Street at her home on May 5, 2011. The substance reportedly went directly into his blood stream, shutting down his organs. He died the next day.

She was charged in December after a local coroner ruled his death a suicide. A grand jury indicted Rivera last month. If convicted, she could face ten years behind bars. Though it has not been confirmed, Rivera looks as though she has undergone surgical procedures on her face that she performed herself or someone else.

Essex County Assistant Prosecutor William Neafsey said that, while he doesn’t believe she meant for Street to die, Rivera’s actions were responsible for his death.

“The state is not alleging at all that she purposely caused his death, but that her behavior, her acting with no training, no preparation led to his death.” Neafsey said after the hearing, referring to the charges against Rivera. “Performing this type of procedure, basically a surgical procedure on him without any proper training or certificates, that’s why it’s reckless.”

For the moment, Rivera is free on $75,000. No one else has stepped forward to claim that they had similar procedures performed on them by Rivera. Her next court appearance will be on Oct. 2.
