Sasha and Malia (pictured second, third from left), the daughters of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle, are in the news not for what they’ve done, but for their school’s alleged scandals. Sidwell Friends School (pictured below), located in Washington, D.C., is making headlines not for their student’s accomplishments, but for their student’s drug and alcohol use, which, according to the U.K. Daily Mail, is “rampant.”

With the Obamas reportedly paying $70,000 a year in tuition, Sidwell is recognized as an elite private school, where the wealthy and recognized send their children. For example, while in office, Bill and Hillary Clinton also sent their daughter, Chelsea, to the storied institution.
Recent reports, indicate, though, that rather than Sidwell students focusing their time studying, the majority of them are actually abusing drugs and alcohol. According to the National Enquirer, who investigated a report in the school’s newspaper, 71 percent of Sidwell students confessed to attending parties where drugs and alcohol were present, with a former student adding:
“I have seen kids snorting coke, smoking pot, getting high and boozing. There’s huge money at the school and the older kids host parties at their private residences. Many of them live in big mansions in Washington, or in affluent suburbs where drugs and booze are common.”
As if that wasn’t enough, this issue is already the third scandal for the school.
The first scandal involves the former school’s psychiatrist, James Huntington, who reportedly had an affair with a parent. Consequently, Sidwell is being sued for $10 million by a disgruntled husband. The second scandal, though, speaks to Sidwell’s reported drug and alcohol problem.
Former student Hugh L. Elsbree, who lives in the upscale Adams Morgan neighborhood in D.C., was recently arrested for the possession of cocaine and ecstasy, but when authorities went to his luxury apartment, they reportedly found an “inactive Methamphetamine lab.”
How’s that for a discovery?
Obviously, the Obamas are said to be very concerned by these “developments” and have reportedly been advised to pull their girls out of the school, but because they want their daughters to have a “normal” upbringing, so far, they have decided to keep the girls the school.
A source close to the Obama family said, “Certainly, the trouble at the school has upset both Barack and Michelle. Some friends have suggested the girls be tutored privately at the White House, but the Obamas are keen to have the girls’ educational experience be as normal as possible. They don’t want them home-schooled.’
