The nominees for the 8th Black Weblog Awards are currently being announced here. Almost 200 nominees are competing in over 30 categories. Currently, the most competitive categories are Best New Blog followed closely by Best Writing in a Blog and Best Personal Blog. The nominations end on September 3rd, 2012.

Founded in 2005 when Black bloggers were being largely ignored by other internet awards events, the Awards have grown into one of the grandest celebrations of Black social-media excellence and a launching pad for the creative, entrepreneurial and activist goals of Black media content creators. Hundreds of nominations come in and thousands of votes are cast online to select the winners of the Black Weblog Awards.

In an effort to create parity between growing new blogs and their older more established counterparts, voting will be split into two rounds beginning on September 15, 2012. This is the first year that every qualified nominated blog will make it to the first round of voting. For a full list of current nominees and the 2012 schedule, visit the site here.
