I understand lettin the boy shoot the gun but teaching him how to load is real fuckin dumb ..the father said he alwayz left the gun unloaded ok well if ur son knows how to load it then there no point n keeping it unloaded not to mention you left it where a 9 year old can get to it…common sense something I think mad people lack….

All these sad azz city folk always trying to condemn our “country cousins” as one poster suggested. It isn’t the rural country folk with astronomical rates of violent crime going on people so stop with that foolishness. I am willing to bet that country kids are more knowledgeable about firearms safety than 80% of city kids. I am a country boy who was raised in the city, and much respect and love goes to our country cousins. The country for those who have never experienced it is so much better a place to raise children and teach them the responsibilities of life. They become able to adapt to the ever changing ways of life even though many chose to move into the city when they are able. Look at the social woes of this country and ask yourself is living a city life really a better life. Firearms safety starts at home if you own guns. There is nothing wrong with teaching your children who to properly handle and shoot a gun. It is the responsibility of the gun owner to make sure that guns and ammo are stored away from children as kids do not always understand the repercussions of certain actions even when properly trained. They do not realize that there is no taking that bullet back. The father should have done better to lock the gun and ammo. An unlocked gun can be loaded by a child who is able to put the round peg into the round hole and I know most kids have had this learning device before. Think of what you say sometimes before blasting off, and look at your own city or town and reflect on it first.

an awful thing to have occured here. my heart goes out to the family, the father and 11 year old most definately will have to live with this accidental death for the rest of their lives. may this childs soul rest in peace….btw—-that “pistols up…click clack” wack ass comment was crude and uncalled for, man—-where is your sense of compassion? and “aweful” is the country way to spell “awful” YOU fool!

If this father chose to teach his children how to use a gun properly, then so be it, but why have the gun in a place to be, apparently easily accessed? or why not at least keep the ammunition locked away…this was senseless and unnecessary, and I bet you, this Father is now asking himself the same simple questions i just asked…Just because a child understands gun safety, doesn’t mean he/she can be trusted to make an adult decision about when to actually handle a gun..hell, we see some damn adults who can’t make the correct decision at times..

My father was a Marine, I was a Marine for 10 years, by the time my daughter was two she was at the range with me, by six she was a shooter. She was taught gun safety and never violated it the trust. teaching your children to handle firearms is a lot better than letting them learn it from television or the music artist. The boys father failed to instruct, and still my heart goes out to him and the rest of his family.

Before yall criticize about teaching young ones to load weapons, remember these are people from the country. 85 percent of the men in the country have gone hunting some time in there respective time. Just like city men past the time by hanging with friends, shooting hoops and relaxing in the house, the opposites are outdoorsmen. There are kids as young as 7 years old hunting with fathers and grandfathers. So, its a cultural thing and it is a great one. They get to spend a lot quality time together that way.
