Carme Cristina da Silva Lima, who is running for city council in the town of Itacoatiara, Brazil, was placed behind bars on Sunday–election day to be exact–for allegedly distributing small packets of cocaine to constituents who promised to vote for her, reports TNOnline.

The 32-year-old politician reportedly drew a large crowd around her vehicle as she handed out political leaflets. The gathering drew the attention of nearby police officers who went to investigate. As the officers made their way through the crowd which began to disperse, Lima and an unidentified accomplice managed to make their exit as well.

When police began to search the parked vehicle, they uncovered not only the distribution leaflets but hundreds of cocaine packets attached to them. The campaign fliers also contained specific information on how to vote for Lima.

“According to locals, she had been distributing the drugs since early in the morning, on condition that people vote for her,” Police chief Daniel Ottoni told TNOnline.

Police officials charged Lima with electoral corruption and dealing drugs.  If the young woman is found guilty, she will be banned from serving in a public office for eight years.
