Fire crews and police had to don hazardous waste suits (see below) to remove Reese-Brooks from her Michigan home, where she was discovered with maggots crawling all over her body as she laid in her bodily waste.  She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she died six days later from causes related to morbid obesity and a previous vehicular accident.

The husband was arrested for failing to take proper care of the Mother of his four children. According to the prosecutor’s office in Warren, Mich., the 37-year-old man assumed the role of primary caretaker for his wife after she sustained a crushed pelvis and ruptured bladder as a result of a 2011 car accident.

Michael allegedly told police investigators he let his wife lie in her own bodily waste for only eight or nine days.

When police investigators entered the Brooks home, they reported that the residence was filthy and totally uninhabitable, yet Michael, his wife, their 2-year-old twins, an 11-year-old, and 13-year-old lived at the address.  According to police reports, the home was infested with bugs, there were no sleeping accommodations for the children, and the refrigerator only had rotting meat.

Even though Michael’s attorney, David Draper, referred to the case as “tragic” and said that his client is “devastated” by the loss of his wife, the couple’s four children were removed from the home by Child Protective Services.
