A judge has delayed a decision on whether a suspect in the slaying of Washington Washington Football Team star defensive back Sean Taylor can withdraw his guilty plea.
A hearing was set Friday in Miami on the request by 21-year-old Venjah Hunte. But after a private conference with attorneys, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Dennis Murphy postponed the issue for another week.
Hunte’s plea deal calls for a 29-year prison sentence. He could get life if he goes to trial with four co-defendants.
The 24-year-old Taylor died after being shot in an attempted robbery at his home in November 2007. He was an All-Pro safety with the Washington Football Team who starred in college at the University of Miami.
All five suspects are from the Fort Myers area. Their trial is set for Jan. 18.
