In a new ad, “Over,” launched by the Karl Rove-backed Crossroads GPS super PAC, the narrator declares to President Barack Obama, “The time for politics has ended.” A political strategist is using his political action committee to stress that now is not the time for politics. Isn’t that something? Why don’t I go to Popeye’s, order myself a six-piece crispy strips meal with cajun fries, then walk around screaming, “Eat healthy!!!”

The initial buy for the “Over” ad is reportedly $500,000, with it reportedly airing on various cable stations across the country, plus the local market in Washington, D.C., this weekend. In a statement about the ad, Crossroads GPS President and CEO Steven Law claims:

The White House has shown it is not serious about the debt, as it has yet to propose significant spending cuts to go along with its massive proposed tax hikes. Serious revenue concessions have been made, but Obama won’t take yes for an answer.

So not only does Rove and his political henchmen not realize that the election is over, they want to continue operating under a parallel universe, where they refuse to cooperate in the name of bipartisanship.

As delicious as the taste of the irony displayed in both Law’s remarks and throughout this ad is, one can’t help but watch it and be left with a bitter taste, after noticing Rove is once again playing a bit of racial politics. Even if executed a bit more subtly than in past efforts, Salon’s David Sirota notes about the ad that “all of the ‘we’ who Rove implies are against tax increases are White.”

Yes, the narrator ad belabors the point that “we need bipartisan ideas that we can all support.” Never mind that Obama largely ran on the pledge to enact higher taxes on the wealthiest Americans and that his decisive win strongly suggests that most Americans agree with him.

For the record, Obama’s opening offer in the “fiscal cliff” negotiations included $1.6 trillion in additional taxes on wealthy Americans and $400 billion in spending cuts. Obama has drawn the ire of his own base over proposed cuts to select entitlement programs in the past. Meanwhile, the House GOP under the leadership of Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) made a counter-offer that included “$800 billion in additional revenue, secured not through rate hikes but through closing loopholes and eliminating unspecified deductions, as well as approximately $900 billion in entitlement cuts.”

But you know, “we” are so mad because “he” won’t do right by “us.”
I know that old habits die hard.

But seriously, aren’t we all clear that making a boogeyman out of President Obama does not work anymore? Or did this year’s election results not make that perfectly clear? I guess if at first you don’t succeed, try again with anyone will to give you several millions.
