To reply to the intent of this post: I don't know my father. I know who he is, but I don't know him.

It is sad because my grandfather was in my father's life, but my father did not have that type of relationship with me. Another irony: I am now a single-father with full custody of my two daughters (11 and 13). I guess I learned how mch it hurt to not have a father in order to become a father to my children.

Every Father's Day along with Mother's Day I take my Momma and stepfather out to Breakfast. Never had a relationship with my Father. He was a better father to his stepchildren than with me and my siblings. My Momma did everything she could to get me to make the first step...why should I.

I could not love him as a father because I did not know him. I could not grieve for him when he passed away...again I did not know him. My stepfather from age 8 was my father and when he passed, there was and continue to be emptiness in my heart for him and sadness for my Mother, because she is now existing without her soulmate of over 30 years.

My Dad isn't a wise man, he's not very bright. He's made many foolish mistakes and even to this day he still hasn't learned from most of them, he's just too old to do most of them them again, lol. He's a materialistic person, I'm the total opposite. I'm good with money, I know how to make it and I know how to hold onto it for a long time... he's terrible with money, and I've watched him blow as much as $35,000 in less than 2 months. I'm very educated, he's not. I speak well, he doesn't... We're very, very different people.

But the one most important thing I can say about my Dad, is that if you were down he'd give you his last dollar to try and help you. I got my work ethic from my Dad; he's one of the hardest working people I've ever known. And even though we had an extremely tumultuous early period together (he partied a lot when he was younger and wasn't around as much as he should've been), as we got older he did his best to make up for it, and you know what? I can honestly say that he's succeeded. Without my Dad I wouldn't be the success that I am today, because he helped me in times where I literally would've died without him. I love my Dad, and even though the road to realizing that love was hard, I wouldn't change the journey for the world.

I guess what I'm saying to you all is... very few Fathers will be looked at as being the best in every area. It may be possible that you too are going through a tough early period with your own Father. But give it time. Many Fathers are simply not emotionally and spiritually evolved yet when they bring us into this world, and it takes time for them to reach the point where they've found enough stability within themselves to be the person you need them to be. In short, depending on your situation, don't give up on your Father, there is the possibility that things may turn around down the road.

RIP DADDY.i love my daddy like ill never love another man.my daddy was handsome, smart, compassionate,he was an honest man,he had special songs(WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE,SWEET LOVE) that he sang to us and i will always be his poo.
all of my life ive tried to find a love like his but its impossible b/c no man can love me like my daddy did.im not sure if thats a good thing or not but i wish to have a love as strong and unconditional as the love i have for my daddy and like he had for me...
i can only think of 1 bad decision he made EVER.he made 1 mistake by cheating on my mom and she ended the togetherness of our family when i was a kid however, my daddy was always in our lives and us girls always knew he loved us more than he loved himself and our mom.my daddy was a MARINE and was injured and paralyzed but he still gave us girls all the love&time he had.many many times id walk hours to the kentucky nursing home he was in so i could surprise him with a visit AND bask in his love for me, my sisters and our mom.one year @ the nursing home(in kentucky) he went into a coma and he was brought to teh hospital in my county but they had to send him to memphis tenn and you know i jumped in the ambulance with him to the hospital b/c i didnt want my daddy to wake up alone.afer two days??he woke up on valentines day and i spent all morning with him.about noontime i started walking the 100 miles back to my home and i was content that i was there with him when he woke up.i was absolutey faithful that GOD would see me safely home to my daughters, his granddaughters and HE did.
up until his dying day my daddy professed his love for my mother and he never was happy again after they broke up-he moved on but never in happiness like he had with my mom.i honestly feel his love for us was so profound b/c he truly loved our mom but i pray that other fathers who dont love their baby mamas love the children with every fiber in their being b/c every child deserves to be loved and feel loved by their daddy-especially girls b/c my daddy is my hero and the apple fo my eye.I MISS YOU SO MUCH DADDY AND ILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU,POO

just pondering about how many white folk LOVe they dad and what percentage?

I would estimate that percentage 2 be at 45-60% if that due 2 the fact that white boys tend 2 hate they fathers and white females tend 2 take the mothers side due 2 the fathers insurrection of the family(cheating on wife, not taking care of the household so child support was created for that purpose)

WE have always loved and repsected our womben and took care of the household EVEN WHEN the kids was not ours...

there's an old saying
"if you feed them long enough, they your children"

My father is black, he has and still is in my life. my mom and dad are married but split when I was 8. BUT my mom never spome bad about him or got him for child support. He was always doing what he had to no matter what. I appreciate and love my father for that. Some people should clear the hatred out of their hearts. Its not healthy for real.

My step-father taught me how to work hard, but I experienced a lot of physical/mental abuse during the process therefore I have mixed feelings. I am thankful for him, but if I had to change thing I would search for a step-father who was more fun-loving and caring. I love the man, but when i look back on things unfortunately the bad over-shadows the good. The sad part about it all is I am generally an optimistic/grateful person, but its hard for me to be totally grateful with my situation. Thank God for my mom who continues to love and support me....i don't blame her at all because she had her own demons to deal with. God Bless all of you brothas and sistahs who struggle with similar feelings. I admire those of you who had an abuse free childhood....may Blessings to you all as well. I pray that i one day have children and that i treat them well.
