You have missed the boat. You are left at the docks wondering when the the ship is coming to port.
I think we should continue to pursue reparations until it happens. You sound like the southern blacks that said civil rights was a waste of time and this is as good as it gets. We honor our ancestors by keeping the fight for justice alive at any means, well almost any means, necessary. If you think we can make any life that we want you have not seen the statistics that say otherwise. Do you really think the blacks that are inprisoned and on public assistance is there because they want to be? They are there (the majority of them) because of a legacy of poor education, legacy of broken homes, legacy of violence as a response to conflict and because they have not been able to overcome the legacy of psychological abuse. Guess who is the perpetrator and benefactor of this type of abuse?
In order for us as a people to get what ever we want, some wrongs have to be righted. Reparations is the path to a nation healing. This nation must acknowledge the psychological genocide of it’s black citizens and begin to atone. Money is not the key to reparations, although a part of it, but education, mental health, equal traetment and opportunity is what reparations should address.
All the ills you address in your post are attributive to the traetment of the american slave. The slave master resorted to violence in response to conflict with the slave. The slave master would brake up a slave family if the mood or price moved him. The slave master would keep the lighter complexioned slaves in or close to the plantation house which inflamed the darker slaves and in essance creating the black on black riff.
Finally, pedigree in this country is extremely powerful. How many African Americans can trace his pedigree back beyond his slave master? How many white Americans can trace thier pedigree back to King Louie the 5th, for example? Even in curent times not many African Americans can boast a royal pedigree such as the Kardashians or Rockefellas or Kennedys [excuse the spelling of the names]. Those pedigrees were purposely stripped from us during slavery. Why do you think that was necessary? Any person that doen’t know who he is or where he comes from is easly influenced.

The “reparations disclaimer” was a bit of “lawyer language” that legislators slipped into the resolution to protect their client — in this case, the United States — just in case future claims might attempt to cite this resolution as support.

Let’s face it people; there is not going to be any REPARATIONS. I don’t want to discourage anyone, but we claim ourselves to be a proud people. We are not beggers; and to keep talking about something that is not going to happen; is for all practical purposes begging. We have opportunities today that was not possible years ago and without the hard life and suffering of others would not be possible today. We should not dishonor their satrifices by resorting to begging for REPARATIONS. What we want today; we can get. If it is education; get your head and ears out of the iphones, texting, sexting, and whatever, and get in the books, on the net and other avenues and get the education you desire. For the “Brothers” that are in prison; It is simple “if you can’t do the time; don’t do the crime. I realize there are some people(white included) in prison that did not do what they are convicted of doing. Work the system. To all of these young hoodlums out there trying to make a living taking advantage of others by robbing, stealing, killing, carjacking, and whatever. I say GET YOUR LIFE TOGETHER. We in the communities from which they come; are obligated to help them do that. The sky is the limit for kids today and there is no need for us to keep talking about the US owing us as black people REPARATIONS. James Brown said years ago “open up the door; I’ll get it myself”. Well, the doors has been opened for years and “we” are choosing not to go through the doors. Gef off of this REPARATIONS thing and “let’s build ourselves and our communities up. Place the efforts where it is needed. Come on, we can do this.

It is interesting that in all of these discussions around reparations no one ever discusses the value of the reparations. Seems to be fundamental to any request concerning reparations, we should know the value of what we are seeking.
I have calculated the value and it comes to over 23.5 trillion dollars. Almost $600,000 per African American. If interested I will send you a copy of my paper on the subject.

White slavery existed long before anyone thought of Africans. New Orleans had over 3,000 free Negro slave owners, 28 percent of the free Negros in the City. Some Negros petitioned to be allowed to become slaves because they were unable to support themselves. In S.C. 1847 a free Negro named Ellison owned more Negro slaves than anyone in the South. Ellison’s major source of income derived from being a “slave breeder.” His slaves were said to be the district’s worst fed and clothed. On his property was located a small, windowless building where he would chain his problem slaves.
In the Calendar of State Papers, Colonial Series, America and West Indies of 1701, we read of a protest over the “encouragement to the spiriting away of Englishmen without their consent and selling them for slaves, which hath been a practice very frequent and known by the name of kidnapping.” In the British West Indies, plantation slavery was instituted as early as 1627. In Barbados by the 1640s there were an estimated 25,000 slaves, of whom 21,700 were White.
This document records that while White slaves were worked to death, as they cost next to nothing, there were Caribbean Indians brought from Guiana to help propagate native foodstuffs who were well-treated and received as free persons by the wealthy planters.
British Newspaper Argosy for May 6, 1893, said: “Few, but readers of old colonial state papers and records, are aware that between the years 1649 to 1690 a lively trade was carried on between England and the plantations, as the colonies were then called, [a trade] in political prisoners… they were sold at auction… as slaves.” In 1650, over 100,000 Irish children between 10 and 14 years of age were taken from their parents and shipped to work for the English Settlers in the West Indies, Virginia, and New England. In the same decade, 52,000 Irish women and children were sold to Barbados and Virginia. From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and another 300,000 were sold as slaves.

I’m white, in favor of reparations, and amazed so many white people don’t wish to be repaid for the slavery of their ancestors. WE are the ones who built this country. Our enslaved ancestors cleared away the land often at the cost of their own lives, long before African slaves was even a thought (of which only 6% ever came to the US because the demand was already filled with white slaves). More white slaves died on slave ships than blacks, and this was all after whites had been shipped to Africa and enslaved there, so I guess we owe black people money for doing it BACK to them? “They Were White and They Were Slaves” by Michael A. Hoffman, as well as scores of other books on the subject, make it clear it is whites who are owed the reparations. We have been globally more enslaved throughout history than any other race, including in our own country.

People are still in a daze with Obama’s presidency.Obama doesnt have any slave blood in him, and he is not the 1st black president.Therefore, this is a PR move for the government.Also, for Ncobra to mention the Japanese- Amerikkkan who received reparation from the government didnt convey the whole story. The Japanese-Amerikkkans waited for reparations all their life and even with government expressing to the world the thousands and thousands of the detained WW2 Concentration Camp vitims will receive reparations.Yet, there were only less than 100 survivors when the apology and the reparations was enacted, and by the time the money was approved there were less than 10 actually were alive to receive the check. The government move was all tactical period. Just because your “melanin” exudes blackness doesnt necessarily mean you have been enslaved and that you were directly a slave. That exactly will be the clause thats going to be written on paper as the legal category to get reparations. SO HOW MANY OF YOU TODAY KNOW A FORMER SLAVE AND STILL ALIVE AND KICKING? dont get me wrong. I personally believe that we are still enslave except today’s slavery took different forms such as military, prison/jail,housing projects, and most of all, mental slavery. Therefore, monetary restitution will not entail a 180 degree turn around in the community. Now if we are talking about separation but equal(own state, government etc.) then I’ll listen to the apology other than that I thank them for making our ancestors gain a little peace.
