I don’t really prescribe to surveys like this or any other that are racially motivated…First off, there are lots more white people in this country that blacks….therefore, the numbers are always gonna seem higher for us, but in all actuality, they are lower than those numbers of white people….if they say 36 percent, then that’s still a lower total that 15 percent of whites…..really, get some other way to rate the races……this crap is never gonna be correct….yes, I will admit, we do have a problem with our race being over weight…..and its not cute….just because you have a big ass does not mean your healthy…I am 42 and don’t look my age…all my friends I grew up with ar overweight…..I fast at least once a week, and don’t indulge on the red meat……actually, I find it much easier to process pork than beef…..something to think about black people……

Well, a lot of fat women have “hijacked” the term thick to feel better about themselves. But I often wonder why so many black women let themselves go, it’s really just a simple health issue. Stop making excuses for you bad health, take care of your body and mind and it will take care of you.

Well I mean…it kiiiinda makes sense. Culturally black men are more likely to like a girl with some weight (if it’s where he wants it), so you won’t hear us complain about bein big. The rest of the stuff is a result of economics.

a lot of yal have no logic in what you all are saying..people need to stop making excuses? fat black hoes? are you guys really that ignorant?…..its funny how much time people put into to gather all the information to make all these statistics…but no energy into giving the black communities better/MORE grocery stores that are easily assessable, less liquor/dollar/fast food stores, if you have been raised eating like that and have been around that then it becomes a habit. umm i’m guessing this 36% of all Blacks in America, and not just within the Black community. Black people are the minority so of course the number would look bigger compared to obese whites.

It amazes me the level of defensiveness in these comments. If Brothers and Sisters would stop making excuses for our poor eating habits and inactive lifestyles, maybe we would SAVE SOME LIVES!!! Maybe we would each have a better quality of life!! Stop making excuses and cut out the fried foods. Cut out the junk and fast foods. Eat more fruits and less candy. Stop drinking so much alcohol and start drinking more water. Stop hitting the clubs till the break of dawn and start getting some sleep! And stop listening to so much hate-filled hip hop and start listening to more gospel! (Well, that last line was my personal suggestion…) :)
The bottom line is that we are doing it do ourselves. Killing ourselves with poor dietary habits and turning a blind eye to our own self destruction. I personally don’t care who has the most anorexic people. All I care about is what is killing our people, and obesity is killing more of us than the KKK could ever hope to. We do it to ourselves. We can stop it ourselves. That’s what Black Power is REALLY all about: Self-determination and self-preservation= equals advancement.

I agree that we do need to take care of our bodies and do what is necessary to get in and stay in shape. But I also want to say that alot of us blacks don’t have the money that some spend to go have their fat sucked, tucked, removed, transferred and so on. I have seen it many times. They will schedule plastic surgery in a heartbeat to have it removed or go on some expensive diet WITH PILLS to help them. So don’t knock black people and say we are just lazy. That is not always true.

I think Gucci is speaking to some women and men, who accept there condition as simply being Big and beautiful without considering the health ramifications of their size….I know some would say, that being thin doesn’t automatically mean good health, which is true, but I don’t believe there are any exceptions when it comes to big people…besides the strain on pretty much all the organs in your body, all the joints and limbs are under tremendous strain just trying to carry around that extra weight, which is gonna cause some serious problems down the road…As usual, my girl Linda is on point about these foods we are eating..Even the vegetables these days are being made with Genetically modified seeds which greatly decreases the nutritional value, but is also part of the plan for the control of the food supply (research MONSANTO).

Finally, again i would like to agree with Linda and question these numbers…White children’s diets seem to be just as much junk food based as Black children, so i’m not sure this is a bigger problem for us than anyone else, but there is no doubt, this is a serious problem..

OMG! If this is a bunch of total crock. If you have a brain, you know this is a lie. Although there are alot of overweight people, blacks are not the fattes racial group. The reason being is if you measure up to the standard, BMI, of course one can be overweight, fat, or obese. I am 6″4″ weighing in at 220lbs. I must be a few pounds over even though I sport a “36″ waist. Anyway, have you seen the masses of overweight spanish people. Over all, there are too many overweight people in America. However,if ethnic groups keep comparing to a standard that is for a specific group, false numbers will keep being reported as such. To keep it real though, there are a lot of so called thick women. I’ll keep it nice. Holla if I am wrong

I keep telling our people and this is for sure; according to these so-call studies Black folks got more everything that is negative except a Big Fat Bankroll. I certainly donot buy into the hype. I promise you I see more overweight people from other races all day long. I wonder where are the CDC doing their story exactly. Now the real problem is this so call Food and Drug Administration and the USDA, They all need to fired. It is what they put into this food and besides that I truly know they are shooting these animals up with everything that isn’t nailed down for sale. I can say people we need to be more aware of what we eat. Because this so called Department that oversees this food we are eating donot care about the people. Start caring about yourselves. (Peace)
