A video titled “Worst Twerk Fail EVER” had the Internet abuzz last week after the blonde girl dancing lit herself on fire after performing the suggestive dance. Late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel revealed that he was the mastermind behind the viral video, and that it was all an elaborate prank.

In the wake of Miley Cyrus twerking for national television audiences during MTV’s Video Music Awards last month, the video was a timely release for critics of the dance craze. Yet last night, the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host revealed he and his team set the whole thing up.

“To the conspiracy theorists on the Internet who thought the video was fake – you were right. It was fake,” Kimmel, said after playing an extended version of the video complete with him putting out the blaze with a fire extinguisher.

He added, “We shot the video about two months ago. We put it up and didn’t send it to any TV station. I didn’t tweet it, we didn’t put it on any websites. We just put it up on YouTube and let the magic happen.”

Daphne Avalon, the woman who appeared as “Caitlin Heller” in the clip, is actually a stunt-woman. And it appears Kimmel hopes that he can quell potential twerk dancers in the future with the fake video.

“Thank you for helping us deceive the world and hopefully put an end to twerking forever,” Kimmel said after the big reveal.
