Rene O’Quin’s fiance found his body in his apartment on Destrehan Avenue in Harvey, a neighborhood within the New Orleans Metairie-Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. At first, detectives suspected he’d committed suicide before they noticed a hole in a wall near the bed.

Noting the hole, Detective Rhonda Goff concluded that a gunshot had traveled through the wall that separates O’Quin’s bedroom from the apartment next door. She later learned that a 911 call about domestic violence had been placed from the neighboring apartment Saturday.

Pierre CameseĀ (pictured), who lived in the adjacent apartment, had apparently been involved in the domestic dispute with his girlfriend. He told Goff that he feared retaliation from his girlfriend’s family. As a result, he borrowed a 12-gauge shotgun from a friend to keep himself safe. He placed the gun on his bed with the barrel aimed at the wall.

However, the gun discharged after he pulled up the covers. Camese said he didn’t know anyone was shot. He is charged with negligent homicide, along with domestic abuse battery.
