Sheryl Underwood, comedian and co-host of ‘The Talk,’ revealed to the studio audience that she was born a twin but, tragically, her sister died shortly after birth. In a shocking twist, she added that her mother wanted her to hate her father, so she told her that he had killed her sister by suffocating her to death.

Her mother’s deceit caused a 5-year-old Underwood to have a rocky relationship with her father well into adulthood.

Underwood’s secret pain culminating a week of personal revelations, which included Aisha Tyler discussing her struggles with infertility, Sara Gilbert‘s questions about her sexuality, Julie Chen admitting that she had a nose job and Sharon Osborne revealing that she “hooked up” with late-night king Jay Leno.

The comedian, who recently made headlines by describing afro-textured hair as “nasty,” said that she also witnessed her mother stab her father when she was 5-years-old.

Overcome with emotion, Underwood said that she carries her sister’s birth certificate with her and considers her to be her “guardian angel.” She also shared that her childhood pain led her to comedy because, hopefully, if she could make people laugh, they wouldn’t experience some of the pain she felt growing up.
