Rep. Donna Christensen and Rep. Bernice Johnson discussed the importance of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), especially for low-income Americans, on “NewsOne Now.” Despite all of the setbacks since launching in October, the ACA has been doing well, and there have been benefits found on all sides of giving and receiving health care.

“Overall, healthcare spending is at its lowest in 50 years,” said Christensen, “and Medicare spending is at its lowest in many, many, many years. If we’re to repeal this bill, our deficit would go up by $1.6 billion. We’re saving money.”

Johnson gives insight as to why doctors should see the benefit to the Affordable Care Act, “Now insurance companies are beginning to want to come in,” she said.” Physicians didn’t get any pay from patients who couldn’t pay at all, but when patients have healthcare coverage they can get paid for delivering coverage.”
