zaire holmes juicy j scholarship winner
Rapper Juicy J (pictured right) has awarded his 50,000 scholarship to Zaire Holmes (pictured), a young woman from Florida.

In Holmes’ winning video submission, the single Mother talked about needing the money to fund her Biology lab studies, “I am a full-time college student and single Mom. I’m going to school to become a doctor. I deserve this scholarship because I am exceedingly motivated and I am a hardworking mom and student.”

Watch Holmes’ winning submission here:

After having her son late last summer, Holmes continued her drive to finish school; however, since she will be going to school for 11 years to earn a doctor’s degree, her financial aid alone will not cover it.

“I think that Zaire would make a good candidate for the scholarship,” said one of her friends in the video. “She’s a very hard worker and has great leadership abilities. Whenever she doesn’t understand something, she always works very hard to learn it and has good grades in all of her classes.”

“Really, the best part is she’s always helping out people; she’s really a good team player,” added her Biology professor. “Not only that, she’s always coming to office hours and trying to make sure everything’s getting better.”

Though media outlets initially promoted the scholarship as “Twerking”-based — and Juicy himself tweeted, “I’m giving out a 50k scholarships to the best chick that can twerk,” last year), he set the record straight in the winner announcement video.

After he noted that “50,000 is a lot of money. I just don’t wanna waste it on just some chick twerking her a**,” Holmes commented that “a lot of people thought that you had to twerk, but you actually had to read the rules.”

“Yes,” Juicy, who’s real name is Jordan Michael Houston, responded. “You didn’t have to twerk, you had to do what?”

“Read the rules,” Holmes said again. Indeed, the official rules mention that all entrants “submit a video no more than five (5) minutes in length as to why you deserve to win the Grand Prize.”

Luckily, Holmes read the fine print!

Now, the South Florida native plans on transferring from the State College Of Florida to either the University Of Florida or the University of South Florida to study medicine.
