The family of Kendrick Johnson recently filed a lawsuit against the funeral home that handled his remains, claiming they committed negligence and fraud.

Johnson’s parents say they were shocked to learn, when they ordered a second autopsy, that Kendrick’s organs were missing and had been replaced with newspaper by Harrington Funeral Home in Valdosta, Georgia. An investigation by a state board found, however, that the handling of the body did not violate any law.

The family alleges, in a lawsuit amended Wednesday, that the funeral home mishandle the organs and disposed of them in an attempt to thwart investigations into Kendrick’s death.

Benjamin Crump, an attorney for the family, joined NewsOne Now Thursday to update Jeff Johnson on their fight for justice.

“We now cannot retest his organs to see what happened because the funeral home threw them away or Georgia medial examiner threw them away,”  Crump told the host. “They’re pointing fingers at each other but we need to know because whoever did that should be accountable to this family.”
