As my 8 year old daughter peeked her head out of the covers at 7 am, and said, “mom, lets go vote for Barack Obama”,I felt the spirit of the moment. As I drove to BW College after dropping her off at school and turned on the radio to hear the enthusiasm in the voice of my people, I felt the spirit of the moment. As my 13 year old nephew ( who is Black) sent me a text asking for prayers for Obama, Oh my God, I felt the spirit of the moment! Lastly, as I sat in an Astronomy class at 7 pm and heard my Russian professor (in his heavy accent)say that he voted and was proud to be an American, I felt the spirit of the moment.
I, like Joan, am celebrating already. My daughter experienced what it was like to vote in the most important election in our history; my nephew, he had the audacity to hope!
