In life things happen for a reason. There was a reason why people have gone through what they have including Black, Native American, Jewish, and any other group of oppressed people. I think that all that Americans who have fought for injustice whether it be about the right to vote, the right to be a citizen, and the civil rights movement where all elated on November 4. That is one day in my 28 years of living that I wish I can get back and relive. American I believe somewhat united for the betterment of our country and the world. Pres. Elect Obama is not just a president for the Black but a president for us all, he just happens to be black. Yes, there will be those who still hate but it occurs across all races and demographics it’s just that the KKK are more established. Interesting post.

Or maybe I may express it in a fashion stating that it (the article) was extremely defining of today’s realistic perspective. We are on the verge of extremely trying times. I am afraid for us!!..as a nation, although needed change, to what degree and at whose expense. “WE”, the people of a U.S, have seem change before. Hope was there, someone had a dream, X spoke of greatness in a future, “WE”, could believe in…AT WHAT COST? They won’t see his family, they won’t stop at nothing to continue what they have always believed..SLAVERY! Do you honestly believe…they are going to allow “BLACK”.. as EQUAL? Again, I am afraid. We are pushing racist out to the forefront, and they folks, will be no different then the women who strap themselves with bombs overseas…think about it!

WOW!! You have definitely defined exactly what this country is at its current state, “split personality”. You have said it so well. I love this article and I love your page on blackplanet. Mr. Obama’s election is one small step for the U.S., one giant leap for African-Americans. We little people know racism isn’t over as we continue to experience on a daily/weekly basis at work, the grocery store, the clothing store, etc. But this momentous occasion gives us that boost to start looking at our own dreams…again. What were we (Blacks) aspiring to before the drudgery of daily oppression caused us to walk away from those dreams & goals? Yes, I know Mr. Obama’s election won’t end racism, or may not end some of the other ills facing our society (war, recession, foreclosures, joblessness, corporate corruption, etc.), but now maybe Mainstreet Black America can look to the sky again and maybe go back to school to finish that degree, start that business, reconcile a torn family relationship. The days are brighter in our opinion because of this event. When you can see in the light, the whole view changes and you can all the possibilities you couldn’t see before.

This article is so absolute! I am thrilled to know that as we move to become a country that is acting on our conscious we can no longer be afraid.

We must all accept personal accountability for our actions and be the change in the world that we would like to see.

If we take all that we know to be right and of the truth, apply it to our everday lives and the communities in which we live and serve. Then we are one step closer in becoming the “Multicutural Democracy” that I know we can be. “YES WE WILL”

It is indeed an amazing article
true to the core. The timing and wording is perfect. It gives me a feeling of pride and uncertainty with the change. As a black race we have come so far yet we have so far to go even as Americans in the land of the FREE. As I think of a quote from Fredrick Douglas paraphrase “America your banner wears two emblems, one of fame but what’s the meaning of the other it gives the Negroes shame. Your honor stands blazing on your stars yet the stripes reminds us of the Negro scars.” I pray that America will live up to it’s creed “ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL”

Bullseye Brother Dan. Yes Poca871, this was an act of God. Remember how Saul set aside and David was lifted up? Is anyone ready to give props to Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr, the Prophet? There are messengers and then there are prophets. Now again,we have seen a modern day miracle, will we continue to lament and seek out false idols to deliver us? Which of us will have the courage to step back from the self-imposed bamboozled prototypes manufactured by carpetbaggers outside our communities that would profit and feed the lie that we live like animals. Who cares if we dig our own demise by perpetuating wreckless and selfish behavior that keeps generations imprisoned,crippled with diseases illiteracy, poverty and self-inflicted genocide. Who wants to continue wondering in the wilderness? From the late 1920′s to the early 1950′s despite Jim Crow and other atrocities those of us that had been apart of building America were able to acquire property, businesses, careers in education, entertainment and even college degree’s. We were able to see the fruits from our labor. We did work together, we worked hard, we valued education, if we didn’t get it at the schoolhouse, a relative or neighbor helped to mentor us.
We were raised to respect and appreciate the sacrifices one another made to get to where we were. When other folks was jumping out windows because of a lost inheritances or some wealthy lifestyle, we were already accustomed to doing without eating at home, doing our own hair, tailoring, or doing one anothers hair. We need to go back to some not all the practices of the past. God doesn’t open doors for us to just stand there and look out. Sometimes, its a window of opportunity created for us to look out and see how far we’ve come or whats ahead of us. And yes the spirit of lynch mobs are still out there. How can a man defend invading another country under the pretense of protecting his own country and helping protect it, while his own country is falling apart? I know that I for one, learned some very valuable lessons from the book of Exodus and the last 8 years in America. Lesson number #1-God sets no one on a path without a destination. #2. When you are set on a path, it is important not to forget why your on it, who sent you and where you are supposed to be. #3 It may not be the same destination for everyone, some folks are just not meant to get there. Some will turn back, some will quit and go in another direction. #4 Everyone has a purpose. Most people look at every day begining when the sunrises, that is the new day. But God created the earth in darkness, the first hour of a day starts in darkness. It is wise to take note of appearances, but it is
wisest to also know why it is and what is inside. Many voted for Obama but not all for the same reason. We should continue to pray for him and his family as we do our
own and continue to support one anothers efforts to keep our communities and families intact.

I loved your article,and i respect your truth about racists still being everpresent in our country. I’ve seen how the sales of assault weapons have risen 49%since the election and I’m really not buying the news stories about them being afraid of losing their Second Ammendment Rights.

I didn’t vote for Obama. Surprised? Don’t be. I felt it was my duty as a black man to make sure that we really did rally to the cause that MLK set forth in the “I have a dream.” speech. I didn’t judge a man by the color of his skin but by the content of his character. After Researching Obama’s record I found him to have more in common with GW Bush than he did with JFK. I understand how the american people could be fooled by platitudes and slogans, but for the press to actually pick a candidate and lose ALL objectivity was depressing. I think democracy died on November 4th because for the third time we let a marketing campaign and not common sense pick our president.

The only thing missing here, as eloquent as it’s been written, is what this also means to other minority groups, and what it could possibly mean for it’s unheard minority, The Native American Indian.

The very word American is inspiring to say the least, a country built from the heart, blood sweat and tears of hope.

I believed still, through the last eight years that America would wake up to itself and agree this election’s win is but the rubbing of sleep from it’s collective eye.

The work has just begun but believe most americans recognize this. Those against true equality will most assuredly not give up their stance so easily and the real vanguards of truth must be vigilant.

We all, regardless of color, creed or class, who believe in justice and the benefits of peace must remain alert at our posts. What we fight for goes beyond America & our ideals. It benefits the world and the true future of this planet, our collective children.

Dan for starter your article was outstanding and very timely.

First we as a Nation have to give all the glory to “God Him self.”

If we look and read the word of God, which is the “BIBLE” HE said in His word that the “FRIST SHALL BE LAST” and “THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST” this here is just a conformation of God’s word.

If you know God’s number and how he uses them.

The number 8 meaning “New Beginning” looking for change for America.

All of your Four Fathers that went before us, And Fought the Good Fight of Faith.

God said now is the time, I turning things around for his good.

Everything is falling down, but the “Word of God” it shall still stand.

America we have to go back to our first love.

Which ever name you which to call Him.

Jesus, Lord, Almighty, Kings of Kings Lord of Lord, Jehovah, Prince of Peace, The Great I AM, Alfa and Omega, The First and the Last, ELO HIM.

I can name so many more.

“We are all one multicultural nation, let all come together, because together we stand and divide we fall.”

As we see this Nation Falling in Frist of our see.

President Elect Obama is going to need the help of the nation to get things back in order with the help of God on his side, and the nation praying for Him.

Great article and very true.
It is time for a change. God bless the Obama family as they make history. I truly believe Barack Obama is God’s chosen one. Nothing happens in this universe without God’s say so. We must pray first for his safety and also the safety of his family. Secondly we must pray that God will lead and direct Barack Obama to make good sound decisions that will get this great and wonderful country back on track or at least establish the ground work needed to begin the process. It will not happen overnight. The road ahead will be tough and it may get worse before it gets better but it will get better.
Wisdom is the key. President -elect Obama has already shown wisdom in the of cabinet members he has selected so far.
He will do just fine. He has a beautiful and strong black woman by his side who obviously
loves and adores him. They are an unbeatable team.
America is best nation even with all it’s flaws. You can either love it or leave it. I choose to love it. GOD BLESS THIS NATION AND THE OBAMA FAMILY!!

Excellent article… In so many ways it depicts the reality of where we are as a country. The point that I want to express is that I truly believe that Obama is walking in his destiny… He was called and purposed for this highest position in this country at this appointed time. The change that America is seeing right now is a direct mandate from God. However, you are so absolutely correct, we must stay vigilant for this change is in its beginning stage and those persons not wanting to see America changed into a multicultural society will not give up without a fight.
If nothing else, we have witness with this election that if we come together as a group of people and unite for a common cause, change can come about. We all know that where there is unity, there is also strength, but too often we forget, or in many instances we are selfish and are not thinking how our lack of action can & will impact another.

i think this world should wake up.
yeah i agree that we need a change and that we should love and respect each other.
but what i don’t under stand is this,
how can we as a people and a nation say that we will fight for our country to keep it free from both foreign and domestic enemies.
but still hate each other.
because of skin color or religion.
and we all say that we love and god.
if that’s true why are there skin heads and other people who just love to hate ?
me when i see a person no matter what their skin color is.
i see and person first and hope that they are friendly.
and that we can live as neighbors together and that our kids can play as one.
not as he or she is black or white.
damn right it’s time for a change.
and we can do it if we put our hearts into it.
