High-intensity interval training, or HIIT, is a term used to describe workout regimes that alternates between periods of intense activity and periods of less-intense activity – or even rest. An example of such an exercise could be a sprint, followed by some jogging in place. Some experts say that HIIT is a better technique for burning fat than other workouts. At the very least, the short sessions can be just as effective as long ex.

Dr. Phoenyx Austin, sports medicine physician and author of “And That’s Why You’re Fat,” stopped by “NewsOne Now” with Roland Martin to explain high-intensity interval training and how it can improve your fitness. Listen to what she had to say.

Be sure to listen to “NewsOne Now” with Roland Martin, weekdays at 7 a.m. EST and watch at 9 a.m. EST on TV One.
