Dr. Carl Hart, a groundbreaking neuroscientist shares his story of growing up in one of Miami’s toughest neighborhoods and how it led him to his pioneering work in drug addiction in his new book, “High Price.” Friday, Hart was a guest on “NewsOne Now” with Roland Martin to talk about his book and research. During the conversation, he explained data from the U.S. government that suggest nearly 80 percent of drug users are, in fact, not addicts. And Hart took the conversation to the next level by tying how American society perceives drug users to the prison industrial complex and the War on Drugs.

Listen to the full report below and lear about the scientific research that inform Hart’s claims.

Be sure to listen to “NewsOne Now” with Roland Martin, weekdays at 7 a.m. EST and watch at 9 a.m. EST on TV One.
