WXYZ is reporting that a child was mauled by a dog and then shot on Detroit’s west side earlier Sunday night. The child was taken to the hospital, but there is no word on the condition.

WXYZ says the incident happened on the 7600 block of Warwick on Detroit’s west side. According to police, the 7-year-old was attacked by a dog and a neighbor came out to help. They tried to shoot the dog, but ended up wounding the child instead.
