LOS ANGELES (AP) — A glimpse at fun facts about Thursday’s Emmy nominations:

___

PROUD TO BE NOMINATED: “Orange Is the New Black” co-star Laverne Cox is breaking down another barrier: She’s the first openly transgender actress to be nominated for an Emmy. Other lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Emmy contenders this year include Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons, Kate McKinnon, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Nathan Lane.

___

PROUD TO BE NOMINATED AND A NEW PAPA: Congratulations are pouring in for Jimmy Kimmel, and not just because “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” earned another Emmy nomination. The talk-show host announced on Twitter that he welcomed a daughter Thursday morning with wife Molly McNearny. A spokesman for Kimmel confirmed that Jane Kimmel was born Thursday in Los Angeles. The 46-year-old comedian also saw his late-night show earn three Emmy nominations Thursday morning, including a nod for outstanding variety series. McNearny is a head writer on the show.

___

FROM THE BIG TO SMALL SCREEN: Several movie stars are earning their first-ever Emmy nominations this year, including previous Academy Award winners and nominees like Matthew McConaughey for HBO’s “True Detective,” Billy Bob Thornton for FX’s “Fargo,” Chiwetel Ejiofor for Starz’s “Dancing on the Edge” and Mark Ruffalo for HBO’s “The Normal Heart.”

___

MAINTAING HIS LEAD: Hector Ramirez doesn’t have a marquee name, but he can’t be stopped at the Emmys. The camera operator received his 72nd nomination for an episode of “Dancing with the Stars,” maintaining his record as the most nominated individual in Emmy history. He’s followed by Sheila Nevins, the president of HBO Documentary Films. She now has 67 nominations.

___

SUSAN LUCCI SYNDRONE: Will the streak be over for Jon Hamm? The perennial Emmys loser is nominated for his 10th statue after previously receiving nominations for his roles on “Mad Men” and “30 Rock.” Other nominated performers who’ve never won Emmy gold despite receiving multiple nods in the past include Amy Poehler, Don Cheadle, Steve Buscemi and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

___

SOME GIFT: For the first time in five years, Sofía Vergara was not nominated for an Emmy Award. The 42-year-old, Colombia-born star, who plays the much younger wife of patriarch Jay Pritchett on “Modern Family,” was snubbed by the TV academy on Thursday after previously being nominated four times in a row as best supporting actress in a comedy series. Thursday was also Vergara’s birthday.
