Although African Americans make up just 13 percent of the U.S. population, we account for 33 percent of the missing in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s database. Cases involving African Americans also tend to receive less media coverage than missing Whites, with missing men of color getting even less attention.

NewsOne has partnered with the Black and Missing Foundation to focus on the crisis of missing African Americans.

To be a part of the solution, NewsOne will profile a missing person weekly and provide tips about how to keep your loved ones safe and what to do if someone goes missing.

The family received a call from Wendy Fougy’s job on Aug. 14th, stating that she had failed to show up for work the last several days.

Al Fougy said that because his sister worked in a demanding job, it was not unusual for her to go a week or so without speaking to family. However, the family says Wendy has never disappeared in the past and it is highly unusual for her to miss work.

“She’s an incredible person, just very giving,” Al Fougy, who lives in New Jersey, told NewsOne about his sister who speaks multiple languages, such as French, Spanish, and German. He described his sister as an incredibly intelligent person who enjoys learning. In addition to being an engineer, mathematics and traveling are her favorite hobbies.

Al Fougy said that his sister’s love of learning has had a positive influence on his son who is now studying psychology.

Al Fougy made a touching plea for help in finding his sister in the below YouTube video:

Because his sister is still considered a Philadelphia resident, Fougy said police there are investigating the case but have yet to develop any leads. Philadelphia police are also cooperating with police in Virginia.

Wendy’s disappearance has been difficult for the family.

“It’s taxing. I haven’t slept for three days and my mother hasn’t either, but we are strong people with strong resolve,” said Al Fougy. “We are thinking about this in the positive. We know in our hearts that she is alive.”
