News organizations are painting members of the Black community in an unflattering light, giving the rest of America and the world the impression that people of African decent are the only ones who are involved in certain behavior.

Greg Carr, Associate Professor of Africana Studies and Chair of Afro-American Studies at Howard University and Adjunct Faculty at the Howard School of Law, joined Martin during the radio portion of “NewsOne Now” to discuss corporal punishment and the constant attempt to link it back to slavery.

The Black beauty supply industry rakes in billions of dollars every year, but African Americans only own a fraction of the businesses within in industry. According to the Beauty Supply Institute, the beauty supply industry generates $15 billion per year, 96% of the customers are Black and less than 3% of ownership within the industry is Black.

Filmmaker Aron RanenDevin Robinson, founder of the Beauty Supply Institute; Princess Hill and Kelly Williams co-owners of Ambiance Beauty Supply breakdown how African Americans are being locked out of the beauty supply industry.

Iyanla Vanzant  joined Martin on “NewsOne Now” to talk about season 3 of OWN TV’s “Iyanla: Fix My Life.” During her appearance on “NewsOne Now.” Vanzant highlighted the three part conversation with a young man who fathered 34 children with 17 different women. Vanzant also details important lessons she learned from the new season of “Fix My Life.”
